Poulan Pro PR241 24-Inch 212cc Two-Stage Review

A 24-inch, 212cc two-stage with heated grips and dual LED lights standard — Poulan Pro's entry into the value tier PowerSmart and WEN have owned.

Poulan Pro PR241 24-Inch 212cc Two-Stage

The verdict

The PR241 lands in an already-crowded tier: 24 inches, a 212cc engine, electric start, and heated hand grips that normally cost extra at this price. It doesn't out-spec PowerSmart's 26-inch machine, which has the same heated-grip comfort feature for $100 less and two more inches of width — the honest trade here is a longer engine warranty and Poulan Pro's wide mass-retail availability instead of more housing for the money. For most two-car driveways in moderate-to-heavy snow it will do the job well; it's just not the first machine we'd point to in its own price band.

Typical price: ~$1,000 (typical street price — current price shown on Amazon)

What we like

  • +212cc OHV engine with push-button electric start and recoil backup
  • +Heated hand grips and dual LED headlights standard, not an upsell
  • +210° remote chute rotation with a separate 65° deflector adjustment
  • +4-year engine warranty — longer than most machines in this tier
  • +14-inch pneumatic tires for traction in packed snow and on the plow ridge

What to know

  • −24-inch width for about $100 more than PowerSmart's 26-inch, heated-grip machine — a step back in value
  • −No power steering; muscle it through turns like every machine in this tier
  • −Poulan Pro's snow-blower service network is thinner than Briggs & Stratton's or a dealer brand's
  • −Assembly and a first oil fill required, like every gas two-stage in this catalog

Full review

Poulan Pro is better known for mowers and chainsaws sold at Walmart and Lowe's than for snow equipment, but the PR241 is a credible entry into the crowded 24-inch value tier: a 212cc OHV engine, push-button electric start with a recoil backup, a 210-degree remote chute, and a separate deflector control — the same basic formula as the PowerSmart and WEN machines already in this catalog. The standout feature at this price is heated hand grips, a comfort item that's normally reserved for machines $300 or more above this one.

In the specs that matter in the snow, it's squarely mid-pack: a 21-inch intake and a claimed 40-foot throw are in line with other 200-class engines, six forward and two reverse speeds give you a crawl gear for the curb ridge, and 14-inch pneumatic tires hold traction better than the small wheels on cheaper machines. Poulan Pro backs the engine with a 4-year warranty — longer coverage than PowerSmart or WEN offer on their comparable machines — even though the whole-machine warranty is the standard 2 years.

Where it loses the comparison is value math: PowerSmart's 26-inch machine has the same heated grips and LED lighting, two more inches of housing, and typically costs about $100 less. Unless the longer engine warranty or Poulan Pro's availability at a store you already shop matters to you, the PowerSmart 26-inch is the better buy at this price point, and the Husqvarna ST 124 is the better buy if you can stretch another $0–50 for a dealer-backed brand. The PR241 is a fine machine, not a clear best-in-class one — buy it if it's the one you find on sale.

Best for: Two-car driveways in moderate-to-heavy snow country where heated grips matter, from a budget mass-retail brand rather than a snow-specialist dealer network.
