The rubric

Every product gets a 0–10 score built from five weighted factors: real-world clearing performance against its spec sheet — throw distance, wet-snow handling, intake depth, how clean it scrapes (30%); reliability signals across large owner-review datasets, cold-start complaints, and parts/service records (25%); value per inch of clearing width and per feature against direct competitors (20%); safety and control — chute and auger guards, deadman controls, steering, visibility (15%); and support — warranty terms, parts availability, dealer network (10%). Scores are relative within a category: a 9.0 single-stage and a 9.0 two-stage are both excellent at their own jobs, not equivalents.

Independence

Brands do not pay for placement, cannot buy a score, and do not see reviews before publication. Rankings change when the products or prices change — not when a vendor emails us.

How we make money

When you buy through our Amazon links, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's the entire business model, and it only works if our recommendations keep being right. Full details in our affiliate disclosure.

Prices

Where we display an Amazon price, it comes from Amazon's product data API, is refreshed throughout the day, and is timestamped. Where we can't show a live price, we show a typical street price clearly labeled as such — the "Buy on Amazon" button always leads to the current number.
