SKIL PWR CORE 40 SB2001C-10 20-Inch Single-Stage (6.0Ah) Review

A 20-inch, 40V brushless single-stage from a first-time snow-equipment brand with deep power-tool roots — a straightforward kit for a price between WORX's 20-incher and Greenworks' 22-inch machine.

SKIL PWR CORE 40 SB2001C-10 20-Inch Single-Stage (6.0Ah)

The verdict

SKIL is new to snow blowers, but not to batteries or motors: the brand is owned by Chervon, the same parent company behind this catalog's EGO machines, and the PWR CORE 40 platform already runs SKIL's mowers and trimmers. The SB2001C-10 applies that to a 20-inch single-stage kit — brushless motor, 6.0Ah battery and fast charger included, a 30-foot claimed throw — priced above WORX's WG461 but below Greenworks' wider 60V kit. It isn't self-propelled and the intake is modest, so it's sized for a typical paved driveway in normal snow, not a plow ridge. For a buyer who already owns SKIL's PWR CORE 40 mowers or trimmers, or just wants a simple, complete cordless kit from a familiar hardware-aisle brand, it's a reasonable fourth option in a category EGO and Greenworks have mostly owned.

What we like

  • +Complete kit: 40V 6.0Ah battery and a fast charger included — nothing else to buy
  • +Brushless motor throws snow up to ~30 ft (mfr) and clears a claimed 18 inches of snow depth
  • +Batteries shared with SKIL's broader PWR CORE 40 mower, trimmer, and blower lineup
  • +Simple controls and roughly a 10-minute bolt-together assembly out of the box
  • +Push-rod chute control and a 48° adjustable throw angle without separate tools

What to know

  • −Not self-propelled — you push it like a standard single-stage, unlike Greenworks' auto-switch kit
  • −20-inch path and 10.5-inch intake are sized for typical snow, not deep or wet storms
  • −First snow-equipment product from this brand — no multi-winter owner track record yet
  • −Costs more than WORX's comparable 20-inch kit for a shorter claimed throw distance

Full review

Battery snow blowers in this catalog have been a three-brand conversation — EGO, Greenworks, and more recently WORX and SENIX — and SKIL is a new name in that mix, even though it isn't a new company. SKIL has belonged to Chervon since 2016, the same Chervon group that owns EGO, and the SB2001C-10 runs on the PWR CORE 40 battery platform that already powers SKIL's mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. That lineage shows up as competence rather than flash: a brushless motor, a 20-inch rubber-edged auger, and a 6.0Ah battery and charger in the box, for a kit priced a bit above WORX's 20-inch WG461 and a bit below Greenworks' wider 60V machine.

The spec sheet is sized for the job most buyers actually have. A 20-inch path and 10.5-inch intake handle a typical 6-to-10-inch paved driveway at a walking pace, with a claimed 30-foot throw and an adjustable-angle chute you steer with a push rod instead of a separate lever. It is not self-propelled — you push it the way you'd push WORX's machine, not pull it along the way EGO's Peak Power kits do — and like every single-stage in this catalog, it's a paved-surface, moderate-snow tool, not a plow-ridge machine.

The honest case for buying it is brand loyalty or a simple preference for a known hardware-aisle name over three newer snow-specific entrants. SKIL has no multi-winter track record in snow equipment yet, and dollar for dollar WORX's WG461 throws snow a claimed five feet farther for less money. But for a household that already owns SKIL's PWR CORE 40 lawn tools, the battery compatibility alone can be the deciding factor, and the kit itself — motor, battery, charger, straightforward controls — is a competent, unglamorous way into cordless snow clearing.

Best for: Paved one- to two-car driveways in typical snowfall, especially for households already on SKIL's PWR CORE 40 battery platform.
