Bully Tools 27-Inch Poly Snow Pusher Review

A 27-inch closed-back poly pusher with a fiberglass D-grip handle and a limited lifetime warranty — wider than the catalog's combo shovels, lighter and easier to store than the 36-inch Snowplow.

Bully Tools 27-Inch Poly Snow Pusher

The verdict

Bully Tools' 27-inch poly pusher sits in the gap between this catalog's 18-inch combo shovels and The Snowplow's 36-inch blade: wide enough to clear more per pass than a standard shovel, narrow enough to store against a garage wall and maneuver around parked cars. The closed-back poly blade and a support rib keep it rigid under a full push of wet snow, the fiberglass D-grip handle holds up in the cold, and it's made in the USA with a limited lifetime warranty. It's push-only — you'll still want a shovel for piles and steps — but for a one- or two-car driveway in typical snow it's a genuinely well-built, independently recognized tool from a brand better known for its shovels than its marketing budget.

What to know

  • −Push-only — no scoop function, so you'll still need a shovel for piles and steps
  • −Bulkier to store than an 18-inch combo shovel
  • −Like any poly pusher, loses effectiveness once snow gets deep or heavy and wet
  • −Costs more than the catalog's cheapest combo shovel for a tool that only pushes

Full review

Bully Tools has built its reputation on hand tools sold at every hardware store and big-box lawn-and-garden aisle, and its 27-inch poly snow pusher applies the same no-frills, made-in-the-USA approach to snow. The blade is nine inches wider than the catalog's 18-inch combo shovels — Suncast's SC3250, True Temper's 1603400, and the ErgieShovel — which means noticeably fewer passes across a two-car driveway, without the bulk of The Snowplow's 36-inch blade.

The construction details are what separate a good pusher from a flimsy one. The blade's closed-back design and molded support rib keep it from flexing and spilling its load when you push into a real pile of wet snow, and the fiberglass D-grip handle transmits less cold into your hands than a bare aluminum shaft and won't crack the way cheap plastic handles do in deep cold. It's earned recognition beyond its own marketing, too — CNN Underscored named it a best snow pusher and Better Homes & Gardens cited it for clearing large areas, the kind of independent testing that matters more than a manufacturer's claims.

Size it to the job. Against the catalog's combo shovels, it clears more snow per pass but only pushes — it won't scoop a pile into a bucket or clear a stair tread, so keep a shovel on hand for those. Against The Snowplow's 36 inches, it's easier to store, lighter to swing around a tight turn between parked cars, and a fair amount cheaper. For most one- and two-car driveways in the kind of 2-to-6-inch snow that doesn't justify starting a blower, it's the size that gets grabbed first.

Best for: One- and two-car driveways and wide walks in light-to-moderate snow — a middle ground for anyone who wants more width than a combo shovel without committing to the 36-inch Snowplow.
