Snow Joe 24V-SS13-TV1 Cordless Electric Snow Shovel Kit Review

A cordless power shovel that ships with the battery, charger, a weatherproof cover, and an ice scraper — nothing else to buy, nothing to plug in.

Snow Joe 24V-SS13-TV1 Cordless Electric Snow Shovel Kit

The verdict

The SS13-TV1 is what you get when you ask for the Earthwise SN70016's job with the cord removed. It's a 13-inch, 6-inch-deep power shovel built around a 24V 4.0Ah battery and a 400W motor, and Snow Joe bundles in a quick charger, a weatherproof cover, and an IceDozer scraper so the box is the complete kit. It clears less snow per charge than a corded machine clears per outlet, and the path is narrower than the Earthwise — the trade for never running an extension cord to the back deck or the far end of a long walk.

What we like

  • +Fully cordless — no 12-gauge extension cord to run or trip over
  • +13-in x 6-in bite clears decks, steps, and walks in a few passes
  • +Kit includes battery, quick charger, cover, and an ice scraper
  • +Light at ~14 lb; carries and stores like a shovel
  • +On and clearing in seconds — no cord to uncoil first

What to know

  • −~22-minute runtime per charge (mfr) — plan charging around a long job
  • −13-inch path is narrower than the corded Earthwise SN70016's 16 inches
  • −Battery capacity drops in deep cold like any lithium-ion tool
  • −Costs more than the corded Earthwise for a smaller clearing width

Full review

Corded power shovels solve the lifting problem but keep the cord problem, and for a lot of the jobs a power shovel is actually good at — a composite deck, a set of porch steps, the strip between two parked cars — dragging a 100-foot cord out there is half the hassle you were trying to avoid. The SS13-TV1 is Snow Joe's answer: the same basic idea as the corded Earthwise SN70016, a motorized blade you walk forward, but running on a 24V battery instead of a plug.

The trade is capacity for convenience. A 400-watt motor is well under the Earthwise's 12-amp (roughly 1,400-watt) corded motor, and the battery caps a session at around 22 minutes before you're back at the charger — Snow Joe's charger is quick, but it's still a pause a corded tool never needs. In exchange you get a tool that's ready the instant you pick it up, with no cord to find, uncoil, or run over, and Snow Joe throws in a form-fit cover and an ice scraper so there's nothing else to buy.

Size it to the job. A single-car pad and a normal front walk are well within a charge; a long driveway or a deep, wet storm will outrun the battery before you're done. For the places a corded shovel is awkward to reach — decks, stairs, the narrow gap by the fence — this is the more pleasant tool to own, and pairing it with a real snow blower for the driveway covers both ends of the property.

Best for: Decks, steps, short walks, and small paved areas where running a cord isn't practical — or a grab-and-go second tool for the garage apron.
