Greenworks 80V 12-Inch Cordless Snow Shovel (2.5Ah) Review

A 12-inch cordless power shovel on Greenworks' high-voltage 80V platform — more motor and nearly double the runtime of the catalog's other battery shovel.

Greenworks 80V 12-Inch Cordless Snow Shovel (2.5Ah)

The verdict

The Snow Joe SS13-TV1 proved cordless power shovels are worth owning; Greenworks' 80V 12-inch shovel is the premium version of the same idea. A brushless motor pulling from an 80V battery — Greenworks' highest-voltage residential platform — throws snow up to 25 feet and runs up to 45 minutes per charge, roughly double the Snow Joe's runtime, with an LED light and directional vanes that steer the discharge without a separate chute control. It costs twice as much and the 12-inch path is no wider than the Snow Joe's, but for anyone with a long walk, a big deck, or multiple areas to clear before the battery needs a recharge, the extra runtime is the whole reason to spend more.

What we like

  • +80V brushless motor — the highest-voltage cordless shovel platform in this catalog
  • +Up to 45-minute runtime per charge — roughly double the Snow Joe SS13-TV1's
  • +Throws snow up to 25 ft (mfr) with an LED light for low-light clearing
  • +Directional vanes steer discharge without a separate chute mechanism
  • +Batteries cross-compatible with Greenworks' 75+ tool 80V Pro lineup

What to know

  • −Roughly double the price of the Snow Joe SS13-TV1 for the same 12-inch path
  • −6-inch intake depth limits it to light-to-moderate snow, same as any power shovel
  • −80V batteries are a different platform from the catalog's 60V Greenworks blower — no cross-compatibility between the two
  • −Heavier than the Snow Joe once the battery is installed

Full review

Power shovels solve the lifting problem the way single-stage blowers solve the driveway problem, and Greenworks' 80V 12-inch shovel is the premium end of that category. Where the catalog's Snow Joe SS13-TV1 runs a 24V battery for about 22 minutes, this one runs on Greenworks' 80V Pro platform — the same high-voltage system behind the brand's mowers and chainsaws — for a claimed 45 minutes per charge, roughly double the runtime in a shovel the same 12 inches wide.

The extra voltage shows up as more than just runtime. The brushless motor throws snow a claimed 25 feet, an LED light handles the pre-dawn clearing session, and directional vanes at the discharge let you steer where the snow lands without a separate chute lever to fuss with. It's still a 6-inch-intake tool, so a deep or wet storm will slow it down like any power shovel — this is a deck-and-walkway tool, not a driveway machine.

The honest trade is price: at roughly double the Snow Joe's cost for the same clearing width, you're paying for runtime and platform, not more snow-moving capacity per pass. It makes the most sense for a long front walk, a large deck, or multiple areas to clear before a small battery would need a recharge — and for anyone already invested in Greenworks' 80V Pro tools, where the battery does double duty all summer. Note that the 80V battery is a different platform from the catalog's 60V Greenworks snow blower, so the two don't share packs.

Best for: Long walks, large decks, and multi-area properties where a power shovel needs to outlast a single small battery — or households already on Greenworks' 80V Pro platform.
